Thank you for some inspiration. At 60 years young my life had changed a lit iver the last 30 years , my gish wher have they gone.Some of this information i did already know , and has happened. Thank you i have seen what i need to do , even as i get older i feel less inclined to make new friends, i will give it a go. Thank you again.

Thanks for your thoughtful and insightful comment, Cindy. You are so right - often new friends are right in front of us...we just need to be open to the possibilities! And yes, it's wonderful to be close to your children, but yes, you simply cannot tell them everything and anything :)

Lovely piece, and it hit home with me. I've enjoyed expanding my friendships throughout my own neighborhood through community activities, book club, etc. Often, wonderful new friends are closer in proximity than we think.

You also mentioned something I've noticed often lately among Boomer-age women and their children. Quite a few have social lives that revolve almost exclusively around their grown kids and grandkids. Some act like their daughters are "besties." Not that it isn't wonderful to be close to your kids, as you point out, Sheryl. But it seems much healthier to branch out and to establish more friendships outside the close family circle. You can't tell your kids everything, after all, right? :-)
